Patricia Komen
Deputy Chair of the Board
Patricia Komen is a Kenyan gender equality advocate with a professional background in Human Resources and a strong interdisciplinary focus on social justice, youth development, and community resilience. She brings over 15 years of experience in national and regional leadership roles within the development and public sectors, driving policy change and programmatic action to address systemic inequalities.
Patricia has extensive experience working with grassroots and national organisations, particularly those focused on gender justice, mental health, and the rights of vulnerable youth. She has collaborated with women- and youth-led movements to challenge harmful norms, strengthen protective environments, and amplify community-driven solutions to social issues such as drug and substance abuse, sexual exploitation, and gender-based violence.
Deeply committed to reducing the burden of addiction and violence on girls, boys, and young women, Patricia designs and supports rights-based interventions that address the root causes of these issues, including poverty, trauma, and exclusion. She advocates for equitable access to prevention, treatment, and psychosocial support, with an emphasis on youth empowerment and restorative approaches.
Patricia is currently engaged in advancing BoyChild Kenya’s gender-transformative strategies, working across sectors to develop inclusive policies and mentorship programs. Her HR expertise has also shaped the organisation’s internal culture, promoting diversity, ethics, and accountability. She actively contributes to national policy dialogues and serves as a vocal advocate for integrating gender perspectives into Kenya’s drug control and recovery frameworks.
